Global Life and Accident Key Facts and exclusions


Our Global Life plan will provide your family with an immediate lump sum if you die before you reach retirement age. Our optional Accident benefit will provide you with an additional lump sum should you die or become dismembered as a result of an accident. However, there are some instances that the Global Life plan and Accident benefit do not cover which you should be aware of.

What is not covered by the Global Life and Accident plans

•   A pre-existing medical condition means any medical condition or related medical condition which existed, or which ever required treatment, medication or advice from a medical doctor or medical practitioner or specialist or which was diagnosed, or for which the symptoms first appeared, prior to your date of entry to the Global Life plan, or any medical condition that you knew about, or should reasonably have known existed, whether or not you had consulted a doctor, at your date of entry to the Global Life plan.

No benefit is paid if disability is caused by or associated with a pre-existing medical condition unless that medical condition has been fully disclosed to us and we have agreed in writing to cover you for this.

•   Active participation in war, war-like activities, and terrorist activities. In respect of the Accident benefit, you are not covered even if you are an innocent bystander.

•   War, war-like activities and terrorist activities if you remain in or travel to an excluded country or region, or a country or region which the British Foreign Office has specifically advised British citizens to leave.

•   Suicide, the consequences of attempted suicide, and intentionally self-inflicted injuries whether sane or insane. In respect of Global Life, this exclusion applies only during the first three years of cover, and to subsequent increases in benefit.

•   Gross negligence and deliberate exposure to exceptional danger (except in an attempt to save human life).

•   In respect of the Accident plan, accidents whilst participating in a hazardous activity unless you have made a full declaration of how often you intend to participate in that particular activity and we have agreed to cover you for it in writing and you have paid any additional premium required by us to cover the increased risk.

•   An accident arising from any activity which is illegal in the country in which it is carried out.

•   No benefit will be paid in respect of death or injury not reported to us within one year.

Excluded countries and regions

We will not cover you if you travel to any of the following countries or areas that the British Foreign Office has advised its citizens to leave:

Afghanistan, Angola, Burundi, Chechnya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Indian states of Gujarat, Jammu, Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Iraq, Israel & Palestinian Territories, Ivory Coast, Liberia, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen.
